Minutes/Newsletter                                                                                      July 13, 2011

Forestville Village Association, the “Spirit of Bristol”

President, Dave Pasqualicchio Report:

Welcome. Summer snooze… relax?  There is never a time to just let things go. It is how we get backed up. Always work, work, got to stay on task.  FVA Forever! Get it done!  Okay, now. Take some time to enjoy the summer sun.

I apologize for the set-back for the final brick phase Central Square installation. Last phase was to be installed by the end of July. What is taking so long? Thank you for your patience.

FVA was well represented to receive the Chamber of Commerce “Spirit of Bristol” award. A wood plaque clock was presented to President, Dave Pasqualicchio on June 9th. It was a great recognition and honor. FVA thanks the Chamber and President Mike Nicastro for a great evening.

President Dave has grown impatient with the Quinlan Project. The approvals needed have FVA members losing interest, to continue.  Marguerite has completed her drawings and comprehensive plan for the renovation, which is deeply appreciated.  However, time, project costs, concern for city maintenance for the plan is of concern and may not be right for the FVA.  Dave has decided to push for a new plan. Simply to simplify, the project and it’s cost.

Faces in the crowd, we welcome returning Patti Woolverton and her mom, Ann Corona, along with Margie Moshka and John Pompei. Soon to be on our veteran meeting attendee list is Linda Labrico and Amelia Goodfield.  As always, in attendance, is City Council members, Terry Parker and Dave Mills; the former Mayor Bill Stortz and Gary Lawton, independent candidate for Mayor.

City Village Report:

·         Great news to Forestville Residents; the Post Office is once again open, with reduced hours, but welcome!!

·         Tom Dickau, volunteer of the ages; what is on his mind?

Ø  Thanks to all for a successful Duck Race, with a profit of $12,000.

Ø  The Christmas ornament promises to be a good one, this year.  Once again is will be a two sided ornament depicting Johnny’s Restaurant on one side and Nuchie’s on the other.

Ø  Tom’s work is on the way with preparation for annual Pumpkin Festival, to be held October 15th, always on the Saturday following Columbus Day.  If you would like to volunteer for the preliminary work or the day of the festival, make sure to get in touch with Tom.

Ø  Several members expressed disappointment concerning the Chamber planned Duck Parade.  FVA should have been consulted, or at least received respectful communication, before it was in the paper. The FVA and the Chamber are equal partners in the duck race and the Chamber is utilizing the duck race as part of promotional marketing for the intended parade.  The former Mayor, Bill Stortz has been asked to forward FVA disappointment letter, to the Chamber’s President, Mike Nicastro.

·         Councilman Dave Mills noted, if we would like to see any changes or additions (such as street signs, plantings etc) implemental to the Rt.72 completion this fall, Bristol has a punch list.  Also, single stream recycling will be completed, city wide, by spring.

·         Leo needed more than two minutes at this meeting.

The 8th annual, Al Barnes golf tournament will be held Friday September 23rd at Pine Valley with a cost of $120.00 pp. There are approximately 100 great prizes with average five - six thousand dollar profit for FVA.

Ø  Leo led a very nice rendition of the Happy Birthday song for Dave, since his birthday is July28th. Included in our best wishes for this month are Ronnie Trafford celebrating on the 20th and Penny Critchley who celebrates a birthday on the 21st. Having said that, Happy Birthday, Everyone.  None of us are getting any younger J

Ø  The winners of the Lucky Ed’s Drawing, with Dave donating 2 bottles of wine, are Amelia Goodfield, red wine and Gail Leach, white wine.

·         Adopt a child, back to school, United Way program:  Once again, FVA will out- fit a child for their first day of the school year, with a cost of approximately $100.00.

Treasurer’s Report:      A Money Market account was opened at TD Bank, with$10,000.00 (.35% interest), as discussed at a previous meeting.  A treasurer’s report, by Nancy Blanchette, is available for member review.

 FVA Membership 2011:

Dave is impressed with the business response supporting FVA membership; however, surprised more residents have not joined FVA, encouraging FVA to continue its good work.   Your membership is welcomed for financial support. You are not obligated to participate with events or monthly meetings.

It is never too late to join; Business $50.00, Non- Profit $25.00 and Residents $15.00. For those 43 members who have not renewed, this will be your last newsletter.

Call Marsha at 860-582-6245 or email mmtldml@sbcglobal.net with membership questions.

Beautification 2011:

·         Beautification:  A weed here and there; a cigarette butt here and there; a discarded paper litter and soda cans here and there…. Picked up!!   Encourage others to do the same.

Beautification is a staple of FVA.

·         Congratulations to Penny and Kit Critchley for receiving the Chamber of Commerce Beautification award for their perennial gardens, a Forestville treasure.

·         Councilman Terry Parker mentioned, the Greene Hills School will probably be renamed.  Some meeting attendees would like it to stay Greene Hills and some members would like to see “Forestville” as part of the name.  It is located in Forestville Village?!

·         Have you seen any properties worthy of FVA notification for their maintenance and/or beautification?

Quinlan Park Project:   Taking forever!

It has been over 3 years since the idea inception and there is definitely a loss of interest in the project.  Membership is drifting to another approach, keeping in mind some of the tangibles in Marguerite’s plan, which by the way is outstanding.  The only wish of FVA is that we had the money; we would do it tomorrow. The present plan is just not doable.

Correspondence report with Maryellen Holden:

·         FVA received a thank you note, from Reid Roberge, $500 scholarship recipient.

·         Congratulations to Bristol’s new Police Chief, Eric Osanitsch.

·         Welcome to Forestville, “Garnish” Restaurant.

Fundraising:

·         Al Barnes 8th annual Golf Tournament, Friday, September 23, 2011

·         Christmas Ornament 2011

·         Any Ideas?  Always willing to listen!
