Minutes/Newsletter                                                                                      October 13, 2010

President, Dave Pasqualicchio Report:

Thank you Vice President, Rick Leach, for covering for me in my absence; fine job!

It is great to be back, standing at the podium, presenting the FVA monthly agenda to an outstanding, involved, committed membership; the envy of all organizations. I am proud to be your President.

This past year, the increase in business and my direct labor involvement, has kept me unable to do what I have done past years for FVA. You have all stepped up admirably and are the imposing face of FVA. I couldn’t have done it without you.

The holidays are approaching quickly. The FVA Village Carol Sing is December 13th, 6:30pm, held at Central Square hosted by CPA, Brian Ricci and Peter Roberge.  Come one, Come all. There is no meeting in December.

The Pumpkin Festival and a brief, respectful, Veterans Day Service, were well done events, highlighting the fall season.

Temporarily, turning the meeting over to FVA election official, Rob Newton, the elections were held. Congratulations to President, Dave Pasqualicchio; Vice President, Rick Leach; Treasurer, Nancy Blanchette;  Secretary, Marsha Lockhart and First Director, Leo Bonola.

Have you seen the table top FVA Christmas tree designed by Marsha? It is decorated with pumpkins, ducks, American flags and FVA annual ornaments. It wonderfully represents FVA activities, the epitome of FVA.  The tree is on display at the Manross library Festival of Trees, until January 5th.   A great gift idea would be to buy the collection of all 7 ornaments; the Railroad Station, Asbury Methodist Church, Quinlan Park, Central Square, Greene Hills School, Sarah E. Reynolds School and 2010 ornament, Town Hall & Firehouse. The complete set is available for $65.00.

City Village Report:

·         Tom Dickau reported, due to the tight budget, reduced expenses and many generous sponsors, the FVA investment for the Pumpkin Festival is only $800.00.  Thank you sponsors;  TD Bank, Tollman Spring, FIC,LLC, Frank Faniola, Susan Hilinski, Calco Construction, Tom Kenyon, Irene’s Culinary Corner,  Crowley Buick Oldsmobile, LLC,   Bristol Instrument & Gear,  the CT. Chamber of Commerce, The Kiwanis Club of Bristol,  and Bristol Cleaners and Custom Tailoring.

·         The 2010 Christmas Ornament is now available at a cost of $10 each. This year's keepsake shows the old Forestville firehouse on the front and the current Engine Company no. 3 on the back. A full description of these facilities is included with each ornament. We ask that all members become involved with this endeavor to make it a great success. The ornament makes a great stocking stuffer or present for your local friends or for Villagers who have moved away.  Ornaments may be purchased at Nuchie's, Forestville's Manross Library, Peter Fredricks Salon in the Village Center and  Tom will be selling ornaments at the Bristol Historical Society craft fair on Novemeber,4th. You can also contact Tom Dickau at 860- 582 1537. He will glad to make delivery

·         Duck Business: Tom  said a meeting was going to be held at The Bristol Chamber Office on Tuesday, November 22 at 4:00pm. Maryellen Holden, Rick Leach, Ron Trafford and Ed Dubois were going along with Tom to represent FVA. The FVA was going to make the following requests of the Chamber. It was felt they have the resources available to perhaps assist in these capacities. The Village Association would continue with all of its current activities and the financial arrangements would stay the same. The suggestions were: 1. The Chamber attempt to seek major sponsors. 2. The Chamber attempt to seek financial support through its members, so expenses would be cut down and profits increased.  3. The Chamber, with due consideration of limited staffing, attempt to encourage members to purchase or sell tickets. 4. The Chamber to include the FVA as a partner, in all news releases or publication.

·         The Quota Club Holiday Tour is coming to Forestville Saturday Dec. 4th. It will include a tour of 4 Forestville homes on Garden Street, Circle Street and the cemetery. As a bonus, the historical perspective of Nuchie’s will be provided by owner Dave Pasqualicchio. Refreshments will be served. See Patti Woolverton or Diana Mikulak, FVA members, for tickets; $15.00.   Support Quota Club.

·         Leo Bonola thanks all who helped make the Veterans Day service, on November 11th  a nice event: Dave and John, raked the leaves; Jim Levesque, sound system; Nick Apostolico, carrying chairs; Penny and Kit Critchley, flags and programs;  and Jean DellaVecchia and Ed Dubois, wreath,  coffee and donuts.  Also thanks to MC of the program Rick Leach, and the guest speakers, Bill Stortz, Rep Frank Nicastro and Mayor Art Ward.   Everyone enjoyed Sarah Boilard , BEHS student, singing the National Anthem, with the voice of an angel. Thank you Sarah.

It is the Veteran, not the reporter who has given us Freedom of the Press,

It is the Veteran, not the politician who has given us Freedom of Speech,

It is the Veteran, not the organizer who has given us the Right to Assemble,

It is the Veteran, not the lawyer who has given us the Right to a Fair Trial,

It is the Veterans who volunteer to give their lives that have given us all our Rights and Freedoms………………..author unknown………..

·         In Leo’s next 2 minutes, he prompted Lucky Ed to draw a name.  Penny Critchley is the winner of the casino bus ticket, in the monthly membership drawing.

·         FVA member, former Mayor, Bill Stortz spoke briefly about the marketing of the City of Bristol.  We now know Bristol ranks 84th in the country. The goal is to bring attention to what the city has to offer and the groups and businesses, which make the city, the great place it is.
