October 17th, 2018
President, Dave Pasqualicchio Report:
· And So It Begins…The October meeting comes to order with a knock of the “Olga Mallet”, which will always remind us of our dear friend Olga Fronczak who we lost earlier this year.
· The Fall Pasta Comedy Auction… Is up and running. There has been a great response! We are selling tables and it’s sure to be a great night! We have lots of “stuff”. Almost too much! It has been a great response from the business community. Joanie Trafford, along with Mary Jane and all the other membership are “all in” and have been working well together. Should be a money maker and hilarious fun at the same time!
· Casino Bus Trip… Is set for January 5th, 2019. There has been a big jump in price for the bus rentals (additional $75 per bus), which now puts the per ticket cost at $35.00. That is still not a bad deal considering you receive $15 in food vouchers and $15 in casino play. Don’t forget about Nuchies pre-trip festivities from noon-2pm. For $10 a person you get beer, wine and pizza. Can’t beat that deal!
· Election of Officers… The results are in! President: Dave P. – “It’s an honor”(nominated by Bruce L.). Vice President: Rick Leach, Secretary: CACO Print Productions (Bill Lozito), Treasurer: Mary Jane Lindquist, First Deputy: Leo Bonola (unanimous vote) – Notes from Rob Newton: The F.V.A. is a state registered charity organization, with its goal/mission to promote Forestville. I was Secretary of the F.V.A. for 12 years. I was very involved with F.V.A. business and the Duck Race before my medical setbacks. Now I golf from April to October, where I started the season with a 13 handicap and ended with a 7 handicap. Presidents Notes: We welcome back Rob tonight for our Election Call!
· Turkey Shoot…Will be held at the November meeting. Pick up a sheet at Nuchies. Provides a small offering to the general fund.
· Christmas Ornament…Is no more. What should we do with the remaining stock? A run off? A sell off? A meltdown?
· Breaking News!…The Carol Sing is coming up, but there is a new twist! The date will be Tuesday, Dec. 18th, but will be held indoors at Nuchies Restaurant. A warm setting, soft lighting, Christmas music and stories. Cookies, brownies and chocolate milk will be served. And of course…..SANTA will make an appearance!
· New Faces In The Crowd…Tonight we welcome Wendy Trafford and Debbie (what’s your name) McCusker. Also, nice to see Lori Gottschall and her husband Dave. Gail Leach is back and the heat is on!
· FVA Website…Thank you Paul Kowalczyk for keeping thing up to date!! You can visit us at www.fvact.org
City Village Report:
· City Councilors – (Dave Mills): No Report – Presidents Notes: Dave had city business to attend to tonight, along with granddaughter Aliana’s Volleyball game. Dave always keeps us informed!
· First Deputy, Leo Bonola (Remarks) – It all started 25 years ago over a cup of coffee between Jack Denehy and I. A short time later, the “Friends of Forestville” Luncheon, (which was held at Marinelli’s in Burlington), was started. Jack and I had a very close relationship and prior to his passing in 2010, he asked me to take it over (keep it going). With the help of my wife Peg, along with Penny & Kit Critchley and Petey Barnes, we moved our meetings to Nuchies Restaurant (who put on one hell of a luncheon) and we are still going strong today! Presidents Notes: Leo was on this night! He is a great story teller!
Monthly Drawing Winner: Joan Trafford - $20 Cash
· Vice President, Rick Leach: (fearless leader) – Veterans Day Ceremony is set to begin at 1:00pm at Quinlan Park, once all are assembled. Last year we had a real good crowd and expect the same this year. Coffee and Donuts will be served. Presidents Notes: Rick is the main “go to” man and does a bulk of the work for this day!
· John Gianoni (Pine Lake Commissioner, FLL) – Cabella’s and Bass Pro Shop have merged and we are hoping that this merger will not affect their donation/sponsorship. There is a big meeting in December at Pine Lake. Presidents Notes: Great News! Donna & John’s daughter Julie (a past Miss Forestville) is getting married in Dec. 2018! As “part” of their honeymoon, they will be joining the F.V.A. on our Annual Mohegan Sun Bus Trip and taking one bus for themselves, their wedding party, family and friends. We are very appreciative of your company during this special time in your lives!
· Lt. Rich Guerrera (Community relations officer) – The Mayors Youth Cabinet, which consists of 10-18 year olds, took a tour of the police station and cells. A very impressive group, who asked some really great questions! National Prescription Take Back Day will be held on Oct. 27th starting at 10:00am.
Question: (Rick Leach) – As of last meeting, the Lincoln St. sign on Rt. 72 has still not been fixed. Will it be? Answer: I have logged in a report for this request.
· Bruce Barton (Post 209) – Not Present: We recently moved our offices to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church located at 355 Camp St. in Bristol. Presidents Notes: Post 209 has the F.V.A.’s back and continues to better this community!
