President, Dave Pasqualicchio Report:

      ·  Here We Go…In past years, Nuchies would provide a luncheon at the July meeting, but due to Covid, as well as Nuchies being for sale, we were unable to do so. We all wait for summer and last year we had the hottest on record and so far this year, we have experienced the wettest! Well, fall isn’t too far away and is arguably the best of the four seasons.

      ·  Bulletin Board Project (Penny Project)…At the last meeting, John G. (absent tonight) said he would talk to the company who erected the Pine Lake Board, to see if they could house the 2 large 8 foot long pieces of plywood for this project, to protect it from the elements. Bruce Barton (Post 209), they would really like to get involved if all other options fail. Thank you John for looking into this and thank you Bruce for the generous offer!

      ·  Happy Birthday Penny!…A signature member of the F.V.A., Penny is celebrating her 73rd Birthday and the village wishes her the happiest of birthdays! Penny is still very active in our community, as you could tell by the 730 perennials she planted at O’Brien Funeral Home. Thank you for being you, Penny!

      ·  The Passing of A Forestville Legend… We lost our longtime friend Gary Santorso on Sunday, July 4th, to lung cancer. Gary was the proprietor of 150 Central for the past 8 years and was a great restaurant manager and such a hard worker who was committed to his craft. They always say, to operate a successful restaurant, it has to be in your blood and that it was with Gary. He loved his restaurant and he loved his customer base. The question everyone is asking now is, what is going to happen to 150?

  • Remembrance Notes:

    • Gary was the glue to the corner. Always consistent with his food, which is hard to do (Brian Suchinski).

    • He would make it a point of going to every table to talk with you (Leo Bonola)

      ·  Fall Pasta Supper…Is being planned and the F.V.A. asks for your support with this much needed fundraiser, to help refuel our account. We are looking for donations and any nice baskets that could be raffled off. Diane at Marilyn’s Pub said she would do the supper at a reasonable price. Date to be announced.

      ·  Welcome Pastor Cho…Asbury United Methodist Church has a new pastor and Roy Diyulio was nice enough to introduce him to our group. Pastor Kun Sam Cho is new to town, but has been a pastor for more than 30 years. He spoke with a very kind tone and is a great storyteller. It is obviously that he loves meeting new people and we loved having him at our meeting. To learn more about Pastor Cho’s journey, or why he gave himself the nickname “Dayfly”, you can look up a wonderful article from the Bristol Press entitled, “Asbury United Methodist Church welcomes new pastor” (7/20/2021), or just stop by the church for a visit.

      ·  Community Relations from PD…It has been some time since we have had representation from the Bristol PD Community Relations department at our meetings. It was a very informative part of our meetings in the past when Lt. Rich Guerrera was attending, but since his promotion to Deputy Chief, it has been a bit more challenging receiving that same type of support. We are a group that at times tends to have questions concerning our community and we would love to get back to that place once again where our concerns are heard and in most cases addressed. We have been in discussions with Deputy Chief Guerrera, who is going to help us bring this piece back to our meetings,  as he has stressed that environments like ours, are exactly what the Community Relations Department mission is all about.

      ·  Cheryl Thibeault…Is running for City Council in the 3rd District and would love to have your support. To get more information on Cheryl and the platform in which she is running, you can visit her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cheryl4council2021.

      ·  New Face In The Crowd…Welcome to Brian Suchinski, former detective for the City of Bristol, who retired after 44 years of service. Thanks for stopping by, Brian!

·  FVA Website…Take time to visit our website @ www.fvact.org. Have you looked lately? Lots of info! Paul  Kowalczyk has given his time and attention to keep all of us informed! Admirable job from the sunshine state! Thank you Paul!

  • We are collecting puzzles and books for the Village Green Nursing Home.

  • Our July 4th raffle with Southside Meat Market was very successful! We will be doing another one in December.

  • In follow up to last month’s meeting in regards to Donna G’s disappointment in the Bristol Press’s coverage of the Forestville Fishing Derby, we have always found that Brian Johnson of the Press is the “go to guy” when you are looking for event coverage. He is efficient and reliable. He is the person you should call and ask for next time.
